The ‘Statistics of Universities, Centres and Degrees’ published by the Ministry of Education every year indicates that the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has turned out to be the seventh public university with the highest preference rate in the current academic year 2017- 18. The applications made by pre-university students who wanted to study a degree at the UCLM exceeded the offer made by the academic institution, surpassing in 22% the over demand rate registered in all public universities in Spain.

Seventh largest public university in absolute terms
A total of 1,787 students chose the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) to take official master’s degrees, according to the Statistics of University Students 2016-17 elaborated by the Ministry of Education. This represents an increase of 24.6%, placing the UCLM as the fifth public university that has grown the most in attracting this type of graduate students. In absolute numbers, it represents the seventh highest increase of all public universities with 353 students in a single academic year.

Last September 5, Times Higher Education published the 2018 edition of THE ranking in which the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) was classified for the third year in a row, along with a total of 29 of the 75 existing universities in Spain. Globally, this ranking only includes the top 1,000 universities within more than 24,000 institutions of higher education around the world, being ranked among positions 801-1000. With respect to the previous year, the UCLM has improved in aspects related to ‘academic training’ and ‘internationalization’ according to the results released this year whereas, on the contrary, it steps back in the fields of ‘research’ and ‘innovation’.

First university in relative terms with a 8.4% increment
A total of 5,348 new students chose the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) to take degree courses, according to the Statistics of University Students 2016-17 elaborated by the Ministry of Education. With an 8.4% increase, the UCLM stands as the first public university that has improved in attracting new students. New enrolments in first-degree courses have increased by 416 from 4,932 in the previous academic year, which represents the second largest increase of all public universities in absolute terms.

World’s best universities aged 50 years or under
THE Young University Ranking 2017 edition incorporates for the first time the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in the list of the best 200 young universities in the world, defined as those aged up to 50 years. At 32, UCLM has been included along with other 15 Spanish universities in this international ranking published by Times Higher Education.

17% of improvement in two years
The new edition of the ranking promoted by the European Commission, U-Multirank, shows an advance over 17% in two years of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). The institution stands out in different aspects, but especially in those related to the business world such as the graduates working in the region, internships in the region, continuous professional development aimed at companies or industry co-patents. The UCLM stands at or above the average in 21 out of the 28 applicable indicators.

47 positions worldwide and 11 in Spain
The 2016 international GreenMetric ranking edition indicates that the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is positioned 127th out of a total of 516 universities in 75 countries. The UCLM stays in the 11th position among the 27 Spanish universities deliberately evaluated in terms of sustainability and the environment. In all the six evaluated dimensions, the UCLM continues to stand out especially in education and research related to sustainability and the environment.

According to the report elaborated by the “Commitment & Transparency Foundation (FCyT)”
The report ‘Transparency and good governance of universities. Transfer Review 2015 ‘, prepared by the Commitment & Transparency Foundation, places the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) among the most transparent universities in the Spanish system. The academic institution achieves 20 of the 26 established indicators, completing the blocks of economic information, staff, students, government, mission and strategic plan.

Among the Top 200 universities in Engineering worldwide
For the first time in its history, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has been incorporated to the third edition of the major universities ranking in the United States (US News), being positioned 911 worldwide. Only 38 universities have been selected within the 74 Spanish participating institutions. By subject, the regional university reaches the 199th position in Engineering worldwide, being the seventh Spanish university in this field.

Among the best 300 universities in the world in 4 disciplines
The classification developed by the National Taiwan University, better known as NTU ranking, selects the best 300 universities worldwide in fourteen scientific disciplines. In the 2016 edition, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) puts up to prominent positions in the four disciplines. Compared to the previous edition, it appears in the same subjects as chemical engineering, civil engineering and agricultural sciences, adding mechanical engineering as an additional subject this year.

The European Commission brings together representatives from 13 countries in Budapest
The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has represented Spain at the meeting organized by the European Commission to share good practices in different European countries on the role of universities in regional development and innovation. The encouter, held in Budapest for two days, has welcomed the experiences of 13 European countries, in addition to presentations by representatives of the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, European University Association, European Association of Institutions in Higher education and national employers association.

QS World University Ranking, one of the three most influential world rankings
For the first time in its history, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has been included in the 2016 edition of the QS ranking among the best world universities. For the third year in a row, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) appears in the CWUR ranking, which selects the top 1,000 universities that particularly stand out for their graduates’ education quality and employment from over 25,000 higher education institutions worldwide. Half of the score is given to aspects related to the education, graduates’ jobs and academic staff quality, in which the UCLM stands at the 378, 594 and 235 worldwide positions, respectively.

UCLM, UPC and UPV, among the top 100 universities in the world
The Shanghai ranking has included the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) among the best universities in the world in the field of engineering, placing it among the top 400 universities on science and environmental engineering, as well as in the top 100 on science and energy engineering. Only three Spanish universities have achieved the first 100 positions in any of the seven areas analyzed, so that Spain is represented by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the UCLM in this indicator “Top 100” at the relative positioning by country. The three universities are leading these areas in Spain; therefore the UCLM is the first Spanish university on the energy field.

Third best national university in science and engineering
The EVERIS Foundation has presented the results of the II University-Business Ranking, which gives an account of the opinion of 2,155 companies about 15,485 new graduates educated in 82 Spanish universities. The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is the 3rd best university in science and engineering fields, being ranked among the best 10 national universities in the two most popular degrees: 4th position in Administration and Business Management and 7th in Industrial Engineering. The UCLM is also the 8th university in which their graduates are more likely to enter the labor market in the region. To do this, 7 out of the 10 most demanded degrees are offered at the institution.

The 2016 edition of the CYD ranking compares the performance of 66 Spanish universities
The Foundation for Knowledge & Development presented in Madrid the third edition of the CYD ranking. This ranking classifies universities in performance groups for a set of indicators grouped into 5 dimensions: teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement. The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) stands out in regional engagement and external research funds raised. By contrast, it shows a low performance in the international orientation.

The editor of the Ranking Web of Universities provides guidance to cross-sectional areas staff of the institution
The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), in the context of the 2014-2020 Strategic Plan, has held a very important encounter with the researcher of the Cybermetrics Laboratory at the Institute for Public Goods and Policies of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) Isidro Aguillo, editor of the Ranking web of Universities. This ranking classifies academic institutions around the world according to a detailed study about their online presence. Aguillo has offered to the UCLM staff, who belong to different vice-rectorates and areas, a set of guidelines aimed at improving the position of the institution in rankings based on webometrics, comparable to quality.

Highest rating in regional engagement, employability and lifelong learning
The new edition of the ranking promoted by the European Commission, U-Multirank, shows the progress of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in all areas analyzed, with particular emphasis on those related to the education quality. The UCLM stands out on issues such as the employability of their graduates, graduates working in the region, the student mobility, internships, graduation rate or continuing education. Regarding the previous edition, the UCLM improves in the 5 dimensions analyzed, being average or above it in 18 of the 28 indicators evaluated.

The UCLM moves back one position according to the BBVA Foundation and IVIE
The U-Ranking 2016 edition, developed by the BBVA Foundation and the Valencian Institute for Economic Research (Ivie) shows that the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) just dropped one position till the 22nd position in the Spanish University System, being analyzed 61 universities. Of all three teaching, research and innovation dimensions taken into consideration, the UCLM stands out in areas related to research and has more room for improvement in those related to innovation.

First Citizen Forum with the regional government
The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has participated in the Citizen Forum, organized by the regional government, held in Toledo to discuss the implementation of the government program and make proposals to the Government. The lowest investment on resources in relation to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) carried out by Castilla-La Mancha with respect to other autonomous communities on academic education, research and development (R & D) focused the proposals of the Regional University for the next four years. The goal is to reduce the investment gaps in these areas to converge with other regions in labor force and technological resources, attracting companies based on knowledge and contributing business network innovation from the University.

36 positions improved to stand 174 in the world
The 2015 edition of the international ranking GreenMetric shows that the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is ranked 11th among the 21 Spanish universities voluntarily evaluated on sustainability and environment. Globally, the UCLM is on the 174 position from a total of 407 universities from 65 countries. Of the six dimensions evaluated, the UCLM particularly stands out in education and research related to sustainability and the environment, occupying the second position nationally and 29 worldwide.

A report has been presented
The Social Council of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) held a plenary session this morning at the Campus of Albacete with the presence of its president, Emilio Ontiveros, during a session in which the professor of Applied Economics at the University of Jaén, Juan Hernández Armenteros, has presented the report on the status of the regional University in the Spanish University System. Similarly, during the plenary session they have appointed the permanent commissions of the Council.

Regional presence and involvement with the production system according to U-Multirank
The ranking promoted by the European Commission, U-Multirank, highlights the commitment with the regional development which recognises the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), when compared over 1,200 higher education institutions in the second edition of this classification, published in 2015. The UCLM reaches the highest rating in two out of five indicators that make up the dimension ‘Regional Engagement’ of this ranking, placing other two in the immediately following outstanding level. The proportion of graduates in bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees working in the region, the internships in companies and institutions of Castilla-La Mancha and the incomes from regional sources are some of the aspects in which the UCLM comparatively stands out. The UCLM is also prominent in other dimensions such as the international mobility of students within the dimension ‘International Orientation’ or the income from continuous professional development in the dimension ‘Knowledge Transfer’.
