The UCLM improves 29 positions according to the Webometrics ranking of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)
The latest edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, elaborated by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, according to the Spanish acronym), includes again the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) among the top 500 universities in the world, a select group with just 22 Spanish universities. The UCLM has advanced 29 positions worldwide over the last year to stand at the 431 position.
The 2015 edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, which classifies about 24,000 higher education institutions worldwide, has included again the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) among the top 500 universities worldwide. In its twelfth edition, only 22 Spanish universities have reached the top 500 positions, one of the smallest proportions since this classification was first published in 2004. The UCLM has advanced 29 global positions and 3 national in just one year, reaching the 431 position in the world ranking and the 18th in the national ranking.
In this classification, the first 12 leading positions are occupied by US universities such as Harvard, MIT and Stanford University. European universities such as Oxford and Cambridge can be found from the thirteenth position onwards.
This ranking uses a system of four weighted indicators which measure the Presence, Visibility, Openness and Excellence in the higher education institutions analyzed. A part from being based on objective indicators collected without the participation of the institutions evaluated, one of the strengths of this ranking is given by the updating of the information used. Unlike other rankings in which the information used goes back, at least, one year in time, the Webometrics ranking has been elaborated with information extracted in July 2015; consequently, the results normally anticipate the future trend for each institution in the rankings published the following year.
Since 2014, the UCLM has implemented a Plan for Institutional Strengthening which, with a multiannual 31 million euros budget, supports those improving actions undertaken by teachers, researchers, managers and students of the University aimed at contributing to the various academic missions evaluated at the university rankings such as Teaching, Research and Innovation among others.
The results of the Webometric ranking confirm those obtained in other recently published rankings, such as CWTS, CWUR or IUNE, and in university reports, such as CYD and CRUE (according to the Spanish acronyms), for which the UCLM continues to progress among the best universities in the world as well as in Spain for the Teaching, Research and Innovation quality and their role in promoting culture.
The analysis and monitoring works of the university rankings are performed from the Vice Chancellor for Economy and Planning with the support of the Office for Planning and Quality (OPYC, according to the Spanish acronym).
