The UCLM is among the best universities in the world on Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Agricultural Sciences

According to NTU international ranking

The classification developed by the National Taiwan University, better known as NTU ranking, selects the top 300 universities in the world in 14 scientific fields. In the recently published 2015 edition, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is positioned 187, 270 y 290 in up to 3 disciplines such as Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, respectively.

Generally, the Spanish University System (SUE, according to the Spanish acronym) has retained its positioning with respect to the previous year placing the Spanish Universities among the top 300 best universities in the world in 159 occasions. In the previous 2014 edition, 158 were the occasions in which the Spanish universities were positioned in NTU rankings revealing a moderate progress in the current 2015 edition.

By subjects, the Spanish universities (as a whole) stand out in Agricultural Sciences, Civil Engineering and Computer Science, having a lower rate of occurrences in Geoscience, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering and Pharmacology, being placed in similar positions in the rest of disciplines.

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is among the best universities in the world in two subjects such as Agricultural Sciences and Civil Engineering, in which the Spanish University System, as a whole, is very competitive. Furthermore, the position achieved by the UCLM in Chemical Engineering, in which the System occupies an intermediate position, is therefore especially significant taking into account that the whole Spanish University System has backed off in this subject over the last year.

The UCLM remains among the top 300 universities in the world on Agricultural Sciences since the publication of the first edition of this ranking in 2011, having incorporated other subjects such as Civil Engineering in 2013 and Chemical Engineering in 2014.

The Regional University has been conducting actions financed by European Fund for Regional Development (EFRD) of national, regional and self-management scope to reinforce these areas with the creation of specialized research institutes such as the Institute of Chemical and Environmental Technology in the field of Chemical Engineering, within the framework of the European funding program 2000-2006; the Research Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture and the Building Institute in the field of Civil Engineering in this ranking within the framework 2007-2013, the latter being in its final stage. The UCLM also intends to provide an Institute of Food Technology in the framework 2014-2020 in the area of Agricultural Sciences, which will complement the activities being developed by the Regional Center of Water Studies, Regional Development Institute and the Botanical Institute.

The ranking only takes into consideration the research mission of the universities evaluating the Productivity, Impact and Scientific Excellence of its production over the last 11 years (2004-2014). Just 15 Spanish universities have been included among the top 500 in the global ranking NTU. The UCLM has not been included in the overall raking, but it has in the subjects, which ignores scientific production in certain fields such as the humanities and some social sciences.
