QS World University Ranking, one of the three most influential world rankings
For the first time in its history, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has been included in the 2016 edition of the QS ranking among the best world universities. After being included in THE ranking in 2015, the institution has been integrated into another prestigious international classification, which has just selected only 21 of the 78 universities that make up the Spanish University System.
QS ranking gives much of the score on academic reputation (40%), taking into account the proportion of academic staff per student (20%), the citations received by scientific publications (20%), graduates employability (10%), international students ratio (5%) and the percentage of foreign teachers and researchers (5%).
To develop this classification, Quacquarelli Symonds consultancy (QS) has surveyed 74,651 academics and 37,781 employers worldwide, analyzed 10.3 million scientific publications and 66.3 million citations indexed by Elsevier Scopus database. The QS Intelligence Unit has evaluated some 3,800 universities, finally selecting 916 for the 2016 edition. The UCLM is ranked 701.
Based on an assessment of the results, the Vice Chancellor for Economy and Planning, Manuel Villasalero, has emphasized “the collective achievement obtained by the university community which represents the fact that a 30-year old institution has progressed to become one of the most prestigious universities nationally and worldwide. In this regard, he added that “the fact that most of the QS ranking score depends on the opinion that academics and employers around the world have about the UCLM is significant, because it indicates the extraordinary qualification that our staff and students have acquired in a short time, earning the respect and recognition of society at an international level “.
