Accountability to society and international excellence
The 2016 edition of the ranking THE keeps the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) among the top 800 universities in the world, having evaluated more than 3000, occupying leading positions on research impact (613), international outlook (681), collaboration with companies (725), teaching (848) and research (789). It is also ranked 23 among 78 universities within the Spanish university system.
The three most prestigious international rankings of the world are ARWU, THE and QS. The 2016 edition of the ranking THE, made by Times Higher Education magazine in London, includes the University of Castilla-La Mancha for the second consecutive year (UCLM) among the best universities in the world over 3,000 evaluated institutions, being placed among the top 800 in the range from 601-800.
This classification is based on five pillars: three with objective information (received citations, industry income and internationalization) and two with combined objective information and information taken from international surveys aimed at measuring the perceived reputation of the institution in the teaching and research dimensions.
The Vice Chancellor for Economy and Planning, Manuel Villasalero, has emphasized the fact of “being placed among the best 78 Spanish universities within the Spanish university system and more than 3000 universities evaluated worldwide, having very scarce funds.” “There is no better way to be accountable to society for the resources it makes available to the university than obtaining better results than other better funded institutions, having achieved levels of excellence from comparatively very limited resources.”
In addition to consolidating its position in THE ranking, to which the UCLM joined in the last 2015 edition, has recently been included in the QS ranking for the first time, one of the three major international university rankings, “thus proving the quality and prestige of the UCLM according to independent evaluations of international scope, “stated Manuel Villasalero.
