The report ‘Transparency and good governance of universities. Transfer Review 2015 ‘, prepared by the Commitment & Transparency Foundation, places the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) among the most transparent universities in the Spanish system. The academic institution achieves 20 of the 26 established indicators, completing the blocks of economic information, staff, students, government, mission and strategic plan.
The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has been recognized among the most transparent institutions of the Spanish university system, according to the report of ‘Transparency and good governance of universities. Transfer Review 2015 ‘, prepared by the Commitment & Transparency Foundation.
This study establishes three levels according to the degree of fulfillment of its requirements, classifying universities as transparent, translucent or opaque. The evaluation carried out by this organization places the academic institution in the group of the most diligent universities when achieving 20 of the 26 established transparency indicators, also completing the economic, staff, students, government, mission and strategic plan blocks.
In this sense, the University of Castilla-La Mancha is part of the 25 public universities within the 49 that make up the Spanish system, which this year has obtained the qualification of transparent, reason why, according to this report, obtains a remarkable high “B” qualification. The regional university has achieved such qualification by successfully surpassing the quantitative criterion of this study, the qualitative – to include among these indicators those related to economic information, financial statements and audit reports.
In general terms, according to the methodology of the foundation, the number of institutions classified as transparent has surpassed the sum of the translucent and opaque. In addition, this report shows that the progression of public universities has been constant throughout these years in all areas, achieving an average compliance of 78% in the 26 analyzed indicators.
The Transparency Portal of the UCLM was launched in September 2015 as an integrating element of different reports and statistics, and to comply with the Transparency Law, giving continuity to the project, UCLM: Facts & Figures initiated in 2004. This portal presents in a clear and rigorous way the evolution and situation of the academic institution in each academic year. The general secretary of the UCLM, Crescencio Bravo, affirms that this portal is “a dynamic element that is being updated and evolving both in terms of the presentation of information and in new data areas”. Following the principle of open data, the statistical information compiled can be downloaded in homogeneous historical series using interoperable data files in an open format.
The Commitment & Transparency Foundation was created in 2007 by a group of professionals from the business world, the academia and the non-profit sector, in order to strengthen society’s reliance on institutions by promoting good governance, transparency and accountability of its activities.
