Spain represented by the UCLM at the European Commission as a good practice in Structural Funds

The European Commission brings together representatives from 13 countries in Budapest

The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has represented Spain at the meeting organized by the European Commission to share good practices in different European countries on the role of universities in regional development and innovation. The encouter, held in Budapest for two days, has welcomed the experiences of 13 European countries, in addition to presentations by representatives of the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, European University Association, European Association of Institutions in Higher education and national employers association.

During this encounter, whose conclusions will be discussed during the next meeting of ministries of education of the European Union member states, the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has presented its experience in the use of the European structural funds over the last 20 years to support the teaching, research and innovation activities and how these activities have contributed to the regional development and innovation through the provision of labor and technological force to the productive sectors.

This meeting, part of the Modernization Program of Higher Education of the Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, has counted on the participation of Manuel Villasalero, Vice-Chancellor for Economy and Planning at the UCLM, and Ildefonso Martinez, chief executive of European structural and investment funds.

As part of the presentation, it has become evident how the UCLM has been reallocating the European structural and investment funds throughout the different programming periods with a higher initial emphasis on teaching (1997-2006), focusing on research in a second stage (2007-2013) and the current challenge of strengthening their capacity for technology transfer to companies through research based on open innovation models (2014-2020).
